BRAND ETHOS - Beauty in Design, Craftsmanship & Ethics

At Lebrusan Studio, we know jewellery has the power to make the world a better place. In our mind’s eye, we see a jewellery industry that serves as an active force for good; one that redistributes wealth more fairly through supply chains, that champions human beings, their legacies, their knowledge and their skills, and fosters gratitude for the extraordinary natural materials once offered up to us by Mother Nature.

By sharing our knowledge with our clients and peers, maintaining vigilant approaches to traceability, investing in small-scale miners and local craftspeople whilst also embracing pre-loved materials already above the ground, and taking careful steps to minimise our carbon footprint at every stage, we create jewellery that furthers us in our journey towards a fairer and healthier world.

For us and our clients, this is jewellery to feel truly proud of. Dreamt up by award-winning designer, visual artist and creative activist Arabel Lebrusan, our engagement ringswedding bands and unique bespoke commissions encapsulate traditional craft techniques and a distinctive mix of cultural, historic and aesthetic inspirations.

BEAUTIFUL DESIGN

Arabel's distinctive designs are reflective of her unique frame of cultural reference. With nearly two decades of experience in jewellery design and a long list of accolades under her belt, Arabel is a multifaceted artist and sculptor who specialises in timeless heirloom pieces that will be cherished by generations to come.

Encapsulated in our collections are nature-inspired motifs, delicate forms, ornate band engravings achieved entirely by hand, sumptuous coloured gemstones, allusions to the Art Nouveau and Art Deco design periods and homages to Arabel's Spanish roots, namely in the form of intricate filigree. With a broad variety of designs to satisfy a range of budgets and personalities, Lebrusan Studio is the perfect jeweller for open-minded, ethics-conscious individuals who appreciate innovative design that will stand the tests of time.

BEAUTIFUL CRAFTSMANSHIP

Time-honoured craft techniques underpin Lebrusan Studio’s entire portfolio of jewels, all of which are created exclusively in the UK. Conceived first by Arabel and her accomplished and visionary team of designers, each piece is finished in Hatton Garden by skilled craftspeople who specialise in their particular stages of the process - from polishing to hand-engraving and gemstone setting.

Lebrusan Studio’s collections are a showcase of intricate hand-engravings, each totally unique by nature. From florid vines to ornate scrolls and romantic heart motifs, these painstakingly hand-scored designs are reflective of the brand's passion for reviving heritage and championing traditional craft. Arabel Lebrusan believes that human beings are the most valuable vessels for knowledge and skill. People like Darren, the master craftsman behind the hand engravings, are vital links in the chain that ensure centuries of history are passed on from one generation to the next.

BEAUTIFUL ETHICS

Lebrusan Studio exists as an active force for good; a means of altering the jewellery industry from the inside out. We're passionate about sustaining individuals and communities, knowledge and traditions, animals, marine life and ecosystems, and everything that we do is reflective of those priorities.

We offer a carefully selected pool of material options, enabling our clients to commission jewels that are either minimal in environmental impact or active in socioeconomic benefit. An opportunity to minimise one's carbon footprint, our recycled gold, platinum and diamonds are available to create new from old, starting new chapters without the need for any further mining. Meanwhile, traceable options like Fairtrade Gold, Fairmined Ecological Gold and artisanal Ocean Diamonds are an opportunity to better distribute wealth down jewellery supply chains, championing small-scale miners and their communities, and ensuring that the benefit of a purchase is felt by them, too.

As an ethical business, we know the scope of our responsibility extends beyond the simple act of creating ethical products. We want to put our money where our mouths are, so we also engage in a variety of charity work. Every quarter, we donate a fixed quarterly sum to The Water Project's programmes in Sierra Leone, a country historically decimated by civil war, human rights abuses and environmental destruction at the hands of the diamond trade. With the help of One Tree Planted, we also plant 10 new trees in Colombia's Choco-Darien rainforest. for each piece of jewellery sold. You can learn more about our Treasure for Trees initiative here.

BRAND OFFERING

Lebrusan Studio is a leading ethical jewellery brand specialising in engagement ringswedding bands and bespoke commissions. Designer, multifaceted visual artist and creative activist Arabel Lebrusan is the lightbulb behind our exceptional jewels. Combining traditional craftsmanship with her own distinctive blend of cultural, historical and aesthetic inspirations, she creates special occasion jewels that stand the tests of time.

Recognising jewellery's potential to make the world a better place, she's committed exclusively to materials and production techniques that are minimal in environmental impact, or significant in socioeconomic benefit. This means 100% British manufacturing and an offering of both recycled metals and diamonds, and traceable certified materials like Fairtrade Gold, Fairmined Ecological Gold and artisanal Ocean Diamonds.

Arabel's heirloom-worthy designs tread a line between time-honoured inspirations and contemporary ethics. Each jewel tells a unique story; one that we're keen to rely via our thorough approach to customer service and the special certificate of provenance that accompanies every order.

Engagement Rings

Carefully designed engagement rings are our forte. From classic diamond solitaires that will never grow old to unusual nature-inspired designs, trilogy settings deeply imbued with symbolism and halo settings designed for maximum dazzle, our broad and exciting collection of engagement rings is bound by delicate bands, intricate hand-engravings and beautiful ethical materials.

The vast majority of our engagement rings are available on a made-to-order basis, inviting clients to choose their preferred type of ethical metal, the size, cut and colour of their central diamond or gemstone, and their ring size.

Meanwhile, for those in a hurry to pop the question sooner rather than later, we also offer a small selection of ready-to-wear engagement rings, deliverable in as few as three business days.

Wedding Bands

When it comes to wedding bands, delicate forms, ornate hand-engravings and considered shapes are distinguishing Lebrusan Studio signatures. Though our wedding band collections are united by this consistent offering, each bears a distinct personality. Our dainty Amare collection is a celebration of fine details and time-honoured craft techniques, whilst the shapely pieces in our Crown collection are designed to embrace any special engagement ring, and our hand-engraved designs offer intriguing, light-reactive textures.

Keen to distance ourselves from the archaic heteronormative binaries that can cause people to feel alienated by the wedding industry, our wedding bands are largely presented as gender-neutral. In particular, our chunky Artisan Filigree rings make wonderful jacket rings to solitaire engagement rings orstatement commitment rings and wedding bands that stand alone. Meanwhile, our Freedom Collection consists of components that clients can mix and match, curating unique commitment stacks on their fingers that transcend conventional restrictions. Its flagship piece is an homage to Gilbert Baker’s iconic rainbow flag.

Bespoke Service

A fount of technical knowledge with almost two decades of experience and only London's most accomplished craftspeople on board, Arabel's bespoke engagement ringswedding bands and jewels are sensitive realisations of our clients' wildest hopes and dreams.

Customers are invited for one-to-one design consultations at the historic London Diamond Bourse in Hatton Garden, just a stone's throw from Lebrusan Studio's specialist craft workshops; in the jeweller's hometown, Brighton; or via virtual means. Lebrusan Studio's knowledgeable customer service team advise bespoke clients on how best to prepare for these consultations in advance, imparting any necessary knowledge on manufacturing processes and ethical material options.

Keen advocates of the circularity model, Lebrusan Studio's offshoot Bespoke Remodelling Service is an opportunity to create a new treasure from an old relic, maintaining generations of family legacy and utilising materials that are already above the ground.

Silver Jewellery Collections

Filigree jewellery holds a special place in Arabel's heart, as an artist deeply passionate about nurturing cultural heritage and celebrating her Spanish roots. An extraordinary craft, filigree is often mistaken for sculpting, carving or engraving - but is in fact created by layering hair-fine strands of precious metal, creating exquisite shapes and patterns likened to lace.

Our collections of silver filigree ringsbangles and earrings are the handiwork of our master artisan Lorenzo, who dedicated his life to honing his craft in a small family-run workshop on Spain's Via de La Plata, where he was taught the art of filigree by his father and taught his sons later in life, too. Since Lorenzo's retirement we have ceased manufacturing silver filigree jewels but those left remaining are available to purchase. More information is available in our Design Archive.

BRAND HISTORY

Born and raised in Spain, our Creative Director Arabel Lebrusan studied Gemmology & Fine Art in Madrid and Utrecht, graduating in 2007. She began her career as a fashion jewellery designer, travelling the Far East and learning the ins and outs of the trade as she went; the good, the bad and the ugly. These experiences offered her life-changing insight into the impact of non-ethical practices on the environment, workers and communities.

Unsettled by much of what she’d witnessed, a Master's in Design at London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins followed, with a deep investigative focus on ethics in the jewellery industry. Upon graduating, Arabel set out determined to establish herself as a pioneer of the ethical jewellery movement.

In 2006 she co-founded Leblas - the first ever ethical jewellery boutique to open on London's famed Sloane Street - as a place to share her inspired one-off designs with the world, establishing new conversations about traceability and sustainability in the process. Sadly, after five fruitful and progressive years, Leblas closed its doors in 2011, at which point Arabel could not shake the feeling that she needed to finish what she'd started. Fuelled by this deep-rooted yearning to continue shaking up the industry from the inside out, she set her sights on a new venture that would enable her to continue designing and campaigning simultaneously.

In 2012, Arabel lifted the lid on an eponymous brand named Arabel Lebrusan Studio Jewellery - Lebrusan Studio's handle until our major rebrand in 2019 - serving as one of the world's first jewellers to pioneer the Fairtrade Gold initiative in the process.

Today, Lebrusan Studio remains a platform for social commentaries and an active stride towards a jewellery industry that is fairer and more transparent. As a founding member of Fair Luxury, Arabel speaks candidly and publicly about injustices within jewellery supply chains – from her own TEDx talk on ethical jewellery to the informative content distributed regularly by Lebrusan Studio and the brand's recent fundraising campaign, Lebrusan Studio Against Child Labour. Lebrusan Studio's membership to the London Diamond Bourse furthers the brand in its fundamental mission of bridging the gap between luxury and sustainability.

A respected spearhead of the ethical jewellery industry, Lebrusan Studio has been recognised with a number of accolades since its founding – including the National Association of Jewellers' Designer of the Year (twice!) and Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year.
